Dschinn - Dschinn (1972)
The German band Dschinn put out this one album of conventional - well maybe you could call it psychedelic hard prog - hard rock and then disappeared from sight. The originality and innovation found in a lot of Krautrock from this era is lacking here, but this is nonetheless a great album, originality and innovation being casually replaced by impudent power. With a gravelly-voiced singer and a hyperactive and talented lead guitarist this is a fine example of German rock. The original album had nine tracks, this release has 12 bonus tracks which appear to be outtakes and versions, and possibly some pre-Dschinn material.Part 1 Part 2
Eela Craig - Eela Craig (1971)
"Eela Craig is probably the best known progressive rock band from Austria, and the self-titled debut is generally regarded as their best record. The style is a bit more symphonic than most of their early 70s German contemporaries, coming closest to the work of bands like Sahara, Zarathustra or Satin Whale. The band are at their best during their extended jams, with Hammond organ and blistering guitar backed by heaps of mellotron and the occasional flute motif. The vocalist sounds like a Teutonic Jimi Hendrix, which can either be really cheesy or pretty cool, depending on how you look at it. Awesome post man. I am particulary happy that you posted the Morpheus album. I have heard both that and the Opposum sessions, and they are both in my top favorites.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, one day you will have to reveal how one comes about such a collection (your geographic location makes it even more intriguing). Myself, I'm no slouch (5K+records,7K CD's) yet somehow you consistently hit me with not only things I have not heard, but things I have not heard of! Maybe my retention is gone, but I used read 'Audion', IE, and several other fanzines yet you keep KILLING me with things unknown.
Anyway, good to have a 'bud' out here in cyberspace that likes to share his incredible collection. In another life, you would have been one hell of an A&R!.
btw, a recent post of my own work wouldn't be two terrible of a find (for 99 cents anyway). Just pretend it's old, moldy, and German.

Bodkin-just plain fun, somewhere between early Deep Purple and ELP but attractively un-informed of either.
ReplyDeleteOut Of Focus-Holy shades of NY post rock vibe (brass section mainly). sounds like a 'live album', nicely jammed. Perhaps the Lounge Lizards (John Lurie) or even Bobby Previte would make a good double bill at 'The Kitchen' in our 'time machine.'
If-Camel meets Van Der Graaf Generator while Jimmy Smith sits in and...references keep popping into my head...Ambrosia for song polishing, and vocal arrangements.., ok I'll stop now, anyhow, NICE ;-)

ReplyDeleteI am not sure how you keep track of comments for earlier posts, I wanted to make sure you received my most sincere thanks for the 'Hendrix/Message From Nine' posts. I sometimes wait to listen, given the particular 'stature' of an artist so that I may set the environment/context appropriately. Tonight was that 'setting'. I created a playlist list that basically incorporated all of Jimi's essential studio/live authorized releases supplemented with the 'boot's' collected in cyberspace. After six hours of Jimi, this particular collection set itself apart, it really captured the spirit (remember I was in this age group so both directly and indirectly this spirit is permeated into me no matter what!). Anyway, blah, blah , blah, woof-woof, good sh*t ;-)
